Instructions

    • 1

Log into your eBay account with your username and password. This will bring up all of your transactions in one place on the screen.

    • 2

Click on "my eBay" on the left hand side of your screen. Click on "selling" and a list of your current auctions will appear.

    • 3

Highlight and copy the auction number by clicking on it. This will be a lengthy number and you need this to cancel an eBay auction.

    • 4

Go to the link located within this article. This takes you directly to the "end my listing early" screen on eBay.

    • 5

Paste the auction number from the previous step into the "item number" and click continue. This will take you to the screen that says "cancel bids" or "cancel auction and sell to the highest bidder." Be sure to fill in the correct option, as this is an investment of your time and energy.

    • 6

Look for a confirmation email shortly after you end the eBay auction. It will say "item did not sell" or "congratulations, your item sold." And it will list the dollar amount of the transaction and the money owed to you, the seller.

    • 7

Complete the eBay transaction as you normally would in the case where you ended the auction early and sold the item to the highest bidder. Make sure you collect your money in a timely manner and check your email for paypal funds that you receive from the buyer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always insist on good communication via email between the buyer and the seller.

  • If there is less than 12 hours remaining on an auction, you may not cancel it.

  • Never give out personal information such as social security number, address or credit card number to anyone claiming to be paypal, an interested buyer, or eBay themselves. They will not ask this information via email.

Good article. I have done this a few times. Once an item broke and I canceled bids and ended the auction.
