The seemingly old-fashioned Reel lawn mower has a number of important benefits: there's no need for gasoline, none of the nasty fumes, no more ears ringing and using a Reel Mower is actually better for your lawn's grass! The modern Reel Mower takes advantage of many new technologies. The Reel Mowers that you can purchase today are much lighter, easier to use, and require little to no maintenance. Expect to spend anywhere from $60 to 350.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Reel mower
  • Gardening gloves
  • Small yard
  1. Step 1

Make sure that you are wearing garden gloves. Using a Reel Mower can cause blistering.

  2. Step 2

Go over the same spot more than once. Of course, this depends on how low you are trying to cut the grass, the type of grass you have and how clean of a cut you want to get. For most lawns, a brisk walking pace is fine as far as speed is concerned, and if you overlap yourself as you cut, you should get good results.

  3. Step 3

Make sure to keep the grass short. The longer the grass, the more difficult it is to use a Reel Mower.

  4. Step 4

Adjust the height of your cutting blades on your Reel Mower to experiment with the ideal cutting height for your lawn.

  5. Step 5

As far as maintenance is concerned, sharpening the blades on occasion will be your main consideration. Inexpensive kits can be purchased at your local hardware store to keep this process simple.
