Make an Egg Carton Spider

Have you been wondering what to do with that empty egg carton? Why not make an egg carton spider with your children and have fun recycling in the process. These cute little crafts will keep your children busy, and will teach them a unique way to recycle used goods. With a few materials and a little bit of time, you can make this delightful egg carton spider and put a smile on your children's faces.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Empty egg carton
  • Scissors
  • Markers or crayons
  • Black paint
  • 8 black pipe cleaners
  • Paintbrush
  • Wiggly craft eyes
  • Old newspapers or plastic
  1. Step 1

Cover your work surface with old newspapers or plastic to avoid getting paint on it.

  2. Step 2

Cut each egg carton cup out of the egg carton. You should end up with 12 individual cups and you can throw away or recycle the remaining parts of the egg carton.

  3. Step 3

Paint each egg carton cup black with a paintbrush. You only need to paint the top of the cups and not the inside because you won't see that part when your spider is sitting on a surface.

  4. Step 4

Poke four holes with scissors on the bottom of each side of your egg carton cup where legs should go.

  5. Step 5

Insert a black pipe cleaner into each of the eight holes on the egg carton cup. You can fold a little piece of the pipe cleaner over to secure it in place, and then bend each pipe cleaner into the shape of a spider's leg.

  6. Step 6

Use markers or crayons to decorate your spider. You can draw on a mouth and other designs. It is your spider, so be creative. You can even add glow in the dark paint to make your spider visible at night.

  7. Step 7

Glue two or more wiggly craft eyes onto your spider's face to complete the look. Visit the resource below for more information on other Halloween crafts.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be creative when you design your spider. Paint crazy shapes using glow in the dark paint to make it more interesting.
  • Be careful when using scissors to poke holes for the spider's legs.
