How to Make a Fake Fingerprint on Your Computer
Biometric security is an important step in striking a balance between privacy rights and the perception of safety. Developing a fake fingerprint on your computer can be used as a security measure for your home or for your computer operating system. If you have image manipulation software, you can create a fake fingerprint within a couple hours.

1
Decide whose fingerprint you are going to manipulate. You could even find one at random. The oils in your skin get on just about any surface you touch, so any hard, flat object will likely have a well-preserved fingerprint. The best ones are glasses and doorknobs. If you look at the right angle, you should be able to see if a fingerprint is present.

2
Apply superglue fumes to the fingerprint. You don’t want to put the superglue right onto the print; you just want to allow the vapors to coat the grooves of the fingerprint. The chemicals will make the fingerprint clearer and easier for a digital device to see.

3
Open the bottle of superglue over the fingerprint and allow the fumes to attach to the print. Take a high-resolution digital photograph of the clear white fingerprint you’ve isolated. Try to get a black background against the white of the fingerprint if possible. The swirls in fingerprints are extremely small and delicate, and you’ll want to capture them in as much detail as you can. Attach your camera to your computer and upload the photograph to your desktop.

4
Open the image of a fingerprint in a graphic design program. You’ll want to get the biggest file size you can, as this will give you the highest resolution. Open the fingerprint image you created onto the program by clicking "File" and then "Open". Look for the file you've created on your desktop.
-
5
Use filters to change the color and clarity of the fingerprint. The contrast and black and white controls will help you get your fingerprint to pop. Once you’ve isolated the whirls and lines of the fingerprint, it will be easier to manipulate.
-
6
Draw on the fingerprint with a small brush to make it different from the original. Remember: you can always undo a stroke you don’t really like. You can also use the line-drawing tool to connect lines that aren’t already connected. Use the magic wand to select a line and then click and drag to change beyond recognition.
-
7
Cut and paste a part of another fingerprint and insert it into yours. This will really make the fingerprint fake. Make sure you use the same filters and contrast changes on the part you add to keep the fingerprint looking natural.
-
8
Add some reality to your photograph. After living for years, a person’s fingertip may have been cut or burned by random accident. This also makes your fingerprint unique. Add a healed cut to your fake fingerprint by putting a thick, even line across the whirls. This should be thicker than the original cut would be, as the mark of a healed cut is bigger than the damage.
