Instructions

    • 1

Soak the spices separately in water. Keeping them all separate helps not only with sorting, but also prevents discoloration. Allow the spices to soak overnight. You will know they are ready when they are soft and easily manipulated.

    • 2

Now that the cinnamon is soft, trim the edges so the stick is 1-inch long. This gives you two pieces of cinnamon. If you want, cut the cinnamon into thirds to get three pieces for your necklace.

    • 3

Cut the dental floss into a 25-inch string. This necklace hangs to the middle of your chest. If you want a longer necklace, add 5 to 10 inches of length.

    • 4

Take the needle and thread it with dental floss. Tie a loose knot in the end. Using the needle, pierce the softened spices. Begin with six allspice pieces. Then thread a cardamom, allspice, clove, allspice, nutmeg. Repeat this pattern for two sets. After two sets, add a cinnamon stick. Continue the pattern all the way around the string, remembering to add the cinnamon again. If you have cut an extra piece of cinnamon, add this to the middle of the necklace.

Make sure the pieces are tight. When the spices dry, they will shrink. When you get to the end, add six allspice pieces to finish your pattern.

    • 6

Tie a secure knot in the end of the necklace and let it hang dry.
