Instructions

    • 1

Begin by tightening the hook in the vise and tying the thread to the eye of the hook. Tightly wrap the dumbbell eyes right behind the eye of the hook. You should make sure the dumbbell eyes are secured tightly enough so that they won’t move.

    • 2

Grab a chunk of white marabou and attach it to the top of the hook so that part of it extends past the back of the hook. After this, add two badger hackles to the sides of the fly.

    • 3

Take a piece of tan rug yarn and attach it to the hook--starting at the tail--so as to avoid having any part of hook visible, by doing figure eight wraps with your thread. Using the same above process, add a white rug yarn piece and a second tan piece to the body of the hook.

    • 4

Tie the legs. Once you’re done adding the rug yarn, its time to add the white rubber legs. Again, follow the figure eight wrapping with your thread to attach the legs. Make sure to wind tightly enough so as to avoid having the pieces move.

    • 5

Repeat the previous two steps until you have covered the entire hook and reached the eye. In the end, you should have used at least three pieces of yarn for every rubber strip and three white rubber strips in total.

    • 6

Apply whip finish and cement. Once the cement dries, you will be ready to fish with a freshly tied crab fly.
