Step 1
Consider the time you need to rent the baseball field and whether or not you need evening lighting. Not all baseball fields have nighttime lighting available, so this will help you focus your search and eliminate those baseball fields not equipped with lighting. Many fields close at dusk because of this factor.
-
Step 2
Call as early as possible when you know the dates and times of baseball games that you want to play, but prepare to be flexible. Local baseball fields need to accommodate Tee-Ball, Little League, Junior League and locally sponsored adult leagues as well. Expect to play at odd days and times, or wait until these leagues finish their seasons and book for an event in mid to late August or into September.
-
Step 3
Expect to pay anywhere from $60 a day and more for smaller parks and recreation baseball fields and into the hundreds for larger or private baseball fields for an afternoon or evening of play. Verify the cost of lighting the field if you will have nighttime play. Often, having the baseball field lit for evening play costs extra.
-
Step 4
See if the baseball field rental includes umpires, if needed. If you schedule a department tournament outing to build camaraderie, having umpires officiate the game will alleviate any on-field disputes. Often you can rent officials to call your games for an additional fee if not included in the rental.
-
Step 5
Verify that the layout of the baseball field meets your league or individual needs, since distance from the pitcher's mound to home plate and between bases varies. You can check various dimensions at the Baseball Almanac online to see what size field best meets your needs for an enjoyable game of baseball.
