Gluten-free foods are found everywhere, but gluten-free skincare products can be harder to locate. While individuals with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity react to the ingestion of gluten, gluten residue on the skin can be ingested if you put your hands in your mouth or eat after applying lotion. Lotion can also enter the bloodstream through open sores. To be on the safe side, you may wish to opt for a gluten-free lotion if you have a wheat sensitivity or allergy.

Gluten-Free and Fabulous

While some of your favorite products, either in the drugstore or at the cosmetic counter, may contain gluten, you can find a number of gluten-free lotions on the market. Many organic or all-natural brands, found in health food stores, are advertised as gluten-free, making it easy to shop for what you need. You can also read labels of your favorite products. Wheat, wheat protein, wheat-germ oil, and some oats in various forms are most commonly found in lotions. These contain gluten or can be contaminated with gluten, so be sure to steer clear.
