How to Use a Chlorine Generator in a Swimming Pool

Soften your swimming pool water as you purify it with a salt chlorine generator. It's easy to use and sanitizes your pool to provide continuous clear, sparkling water. It's not a chlorine alternative: the generator creates chlorine from ordinary table salt for a safe, sanitary swimming pool environment.

Instructions

1. Determine which chlorine generator will best fit your swimming pool. Your decision will be based on the type and size of your pool.

2. Hire an electrician to properly wire and connect your chlorine generator to the pool plumbing. A 110 or 220 service is required, depending on your existing filtration system.

3. Add 50 lb. of salt per 2,000 gallons of water directly to the deep end of your swimming pool. The amount of salt you need will depend on the type and size of your pool.

4. Test the salt salinity at least once a week to be sure your salt levels remain at 3,000 ppm (parts per million).

5. Be sure to do all the maintenance recommended by your owner's manual. Your chlorine generator requires minimal work, but by doing the maintenance, you'll maximize its performance and life.

Tips & Warnings

• A salt chlorine generator converts ordinary table salt into chlorine by passing the salt over the coated blades. This is the same process used in converting seawater into household bleach. You will not notice or taste the salt in your pool.

• Use only the recommended and acceptable salts for your chlorine generator, including food grade salt, solar salt flakes, water softener pellets and brine blocks.

• Do not use rock salt in your swimming pool chlorine generator, as it's not pure enough.
