Make Punk Clothes

Punk clothing arose from the rebellious punk rock subculture of the 1970s, recognizable by its dark colors and metal jewelry. Although punk began as a confrontational reaction to society's rules and regulations, it is now a huge part of the mainstream subculture.

    Instructions

      • 1

Turn an old t-shirt into a punk rock shirt with paint. Lay the shirt on a flat surface, pinch the middle and twist it into a spiral shape. Spray the entire shirt with dark spray paint and let it dry completely while it's still twisted. Twist a new spiral in a different part of the shirt, and spray it with another dark color, repeating two or three times.

Buy an old pair of dark pants from a thrift shop and peg them to make skinny punk pants. Put the pants on inside out, gather the loose material on the inside of the legs and pin the fabric with safety pins. Stitch along the safety pins with a sewing machine or by hand, or just wear the pants with the safety pins left in place. Glue on a few inexpensive zippers with fabric glue.

Convert an old black, denim or plaid skirt into a punk mini-skirt. Simply hem the skirt to the desired length and sew or hot glue some buckles at the waistline. Attach some random zippers with a hot glue gun and add some chains and safety pins. Accent the skirt with a layer of netting.

      • 4

Accessorize your punk clothing with studded bracelets, chains, big pendants and rubber bracelets.

      • 5

Dress up a punk outfit with some black tights or fishnet stockings cut off at mid-calf. Tear holes in the tights or stockings to make them punkier.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Punk up dark jeans or t-shirts with some graffiti announcing your personal philosophies or political opinions.
