Seat covers on chairs and loveseats can cover worn or stained fabrics and breathe new life into furniture that needs a style update. Sewing the bottom section of a seat cover is easy even if you don't often use a sewing machine.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remove any pins that secured the seat cover pattern to the fabric once you're done cutting. Put the pins in a container so they don't get stuck in the fabric while you work.

  2. Step 2

Layer the two pieces of fabric with the right sides together. Sew along the inside of the seat cover so that when you turn it inside out, the section will not show the seams.

  3. Step 3

Match the edges of the two pieces of fabric to make sure they're even. Trim excess fabric or loose threads before you begin sewing.

  4. Step 4

Pin the fabric pieces together at each corner. Leave enough room to sew the edges of the fabric together without the pins getting in the way.

  5. Step 5

Sew the two pieces of fabric together according to the seam allowance on your pattern. Many seat cover patterns use a 5/8-inch seam allowance, but check your pattern before you begin sewing to make sure your machine is set properly.

  6. Step 6

Finish off the seam to cover the raw edges so they don't show on the completed seat cover. Reinforce the seam to make it stronger.
