Things You'll Need:
- Several pairs of jeans
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Flat bed sheet
- Quilt batting
- Large safety pins
-
Step 1
Disassemble the jeans by cutting out the front and back panels from both legs in the jeans. Cut away the waistband, zipper, fly and hems. Leave pockets intact if you want to keep them on the quilt.
-
Step 2
Cut strips out of the jean legs that are the same width. Do not worry about the lengths being uniform, you can cut the strips as you go to get the length you need.
-
Step 3
Piece the strips of denim together until you get a length that you are happy with, then sew them together. Continue to sew strips together until you have enough strips to make the size of quilt you want.
-
Step 4
Sew all of the strips together. Do not worry about matching up seams, this is the beauty of strip quilts. Trim the edges of the denim once the strips are all sewn together to make the edges uniform.
-
Step 5
Spread out the backing to the quilt on the floor, the right side facing down. Use a flat bed sheet for a super easy quilt backing that requires no sewing. Lay the batting out on top of the backing. Lay the top of the quilt on the batting, face up. Trim the edges of the top piece so that you have a 3/4-inch border on the backing the entire perimeter of the quilt.
-
Step 6
Pin the quilt together with large safety pins. Pin the quilt in various places of the quilt, catching the bottom, filling and top piece of the quilt. Put in enough pins to keep the quilt pieces from shifting.
-
Step 7
Put a tie at each seam corner in the quilt. Remove the safety pins. Roll the bottom piece of the quilt twice to form the binding. Pin the binding in place. Sew the binding on a machine or by hand. Trim all excess strings.
