Things You'll Need:
- Answering machine
-
Step 1
Find the default remote access code for your machine. This may be located in the answering machine manual or on the machine. Some machines may allow you to choose from a list of codes or create your own. So be sure to choose one that you can remember easily.
-
Step 2
Dial your phone number from a remote phone like a cell phone or a work phone. Wait for the away greeting to start.
-
Step 3
Type in the access code during or after the greeting but before you have to leave a message. Your machine's default voice guidance should start and notify you of how many messages you have and your command options.
-
Step 4
Follow the instructions given by the voice guidance. Press the appropriate key for a given task. Be sure to press firmly or else the signal may not go through. With a cell phone, the number should appear on the screen when you type it in.
-
Step 5
Change your personal greeting and delete and save messages by pressing the keys that the voice on your answering machine tells you.
-
Step 6
Hang up when you are done. There is no need to do anything else. Your answering machine automatically resets itself.
