Parchment paper is the grease, moisture and heat-resistant paper that is used for cooking and baking. However, you can also make your own parchment paper at home if you want to give paper an antique look for an art project.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • Baking pan
  • White paper
  • Baking sheet
  • Blow dryer
  • Markers
  1. Step 1

Fill a baking pan with water and set it aside on your kitchen table or another workspace. Take one sheet of white drawing or construction paper and let it soak in the water for a minute.

  2. Step 2

Remove the paper from the water and crumple it into a ball. Unfold the paper and place it onto a baking sheet or a plate. Let the paper air dry, or blow dry for a few minutes for faster results. The paper should look wrinkled once you've unfolded it.

  3. Step 3

Pour the leftover water down the drain, since you don't need it anymore. Clean your baking pan and store it.

  4. Step 4

Rip small edges from the paper as an option to give it a more antique and tattered look. Use a marker to draw some designs or some pens to write a greeting. Clean up your work area after you've completed your parchment paper project.

Tips & Warnings
  • To add some color to your parchment paper, crumple the paper first, then flatten it out to place in the pan. Pour some cold tea or coffee sparingly onto the paper, and blow or air dry it for approximately 5 minutes. Or, to reduce any mess, dip a cotton ball into a cup of cold coffee or tea, then dab it evenly onto the paper for that stained, antique look.
