Picture frames personalize a home. Pictures can add to any decor by holding photos of family, nature or mementos. Sometimes the things you want to put in picture frames don't come in a standard frame size, which is frustrating. Having pictures or objects professionally framed is expensive. Change all that by making your own picture frames to fit whatever you want.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lattice
  • Measuring tape
  • Handsaw
  • Wood glue
  • 8 1/2-inch by 10 1/2-inch piece of plastic fiber glass
  • 8-inch by 10-inch piece or heavy cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Staple gun
  1. Step 1

Choose the size of the picture frame you want to make. You can make this to exactly fit your photographs or make it much bigger than the photographs. Making the frame bigger allows you to use it for something else in the future when you want to change pictures or decor.

  2. Step 2

Purchase enough lattice to make your frame plus a little extra in case you make a mistake and need to recut a piece. Buy about 55 inches of lattice to make an 8-inch by 10-inch frame.

  3. Step 3

Cut 4 pieces of lattice to your desired frame dimensions using a handsaw. Cut 2 pieces measuring 10 inches and 2 pieces measuring 12 inches for an 8-inch by 10-inch frame. Cut 4 more pieces of lattice that measure 3 inches each.

  4. Step 4

Lay out the pieces of your frame on a protected surface. Layer the 4 base pieces of your frame, overlapping the corners, so that they measure 8 inches by 10 inches.

  5. Step 5

Glue the pieces of your frame together at the corners using wood glue. Set the 4 extra pieces of 3-inch lattice on an angle at each corner and glue to the base of the frame. Allow the glue to dry completely. Staple on the back of the corners, using a staple gun, when the glue is dry for added strength.

  6. Step 6

Add your photo to the frame by covering the front of the photo with a piece of plastic fiber glass, that is cut to 8 1/2 inches by 10 1/2 inches, and a piece of heavy cardboard, cut to 8 inches by 10 inches to the back cut to the dimensions of your frame.

  7. Step 7

Use a staple gun to add 2 staples to the short sides of the back of the frame and 3 staples to the long sides of the frame 1/4-inch from the edge, but don't push them in all the way. Bend the staples over the side of the side of the frame to hold the cardboard and the photo in place.

Tips & Warnings
  • These directions are for an 8-inch by 10-inch frame. For a different size frame purchase more lattice accordingly.
