How to Get a Job With the Coast Guard
The United States Coast Guard is under the Department of Homeland Security and employs over 7,000 civilians. There are more than 200 different types of job classifications available to civilians who want to work for this branch of the government without enlisting in the military or going out to sea. If you have a desire to serve and protect the country's coastlines, the Coast Guard may have a job for you.

Inquire about the Federal Career Intern Program and Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program if you're a college student. Both of these opportunities lead to permanent civil service positions upon successful completion of the program.

Earn valuable work experience with the U.S. Coast Guard by participating in the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) or Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) over the summer or work part-time while you're still in school.
