How to Decorate a Fall Wedding Cake

To many brides and grooms, there's nothing like a fall wedding. Getting married in the autumn has a lot of advantages, and one of those is that you can take advantage of all of the wonderful "harvest" decorations of the season in your big event.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decorate with small pumpkins and gourds. Place these attractive vine plants around the cake or on layers.

  2. Step 2

Decorate with autumn leaves. You probably don't want them directly on your cake, but weaving them into wreathes or fringes around the cake table can be a very attractive decoration strategy.

  3. Step 3

Select great fall colors. Rusts, browns, dark reds and bright yellows are all great autumn colors you can use to decorate your wedding cake.

  4. Step 4

Accessorize your cake with grape clusters and other fresh fruits. Grapes can give your cake an orchard theme, and fits in with your overall look, especially if your wedding is being held at a winery or similar location. Fruits can be "layered" around the base of the cake along with other harvest decorations, or put directly on the cake, since they are one decoration that's actually edible.

  5. Step 5

Find autumn props like candles or oil lamps. Of course, with the lighting you don't want to get too close to the cake, but votives in glass vases, or even an unlit oil lamp, can have a great effect on the decor. Use harvest props as you see fit to accentuate the fall theme of the cake table.
