Broken tiles are unattractive, and they can be dangerous. You can replace an entire section of tiles nearly as easily as replacing a single tile. If you're working with a large section of tile, use tile spacers to lay each tile straight.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Grout saw
  • Grout scraper
  • Glass cutter
  • Hammer and chisel
  • Sponge with scrubber side
  • Tile adhesive and trowel
  • Grout and wet sponge
  • Grout sealer and brush
  1. Step 1

Use a grout saw to remove the grout from around each broken floor tile. Scrape out any remnants with a grout scraper.

  2. Step 2

Cut each tile with a glass cutter. Score it from corner to corner, making an X. Break up the tile with your hammer and chisel. Place the chisel in the middle of the floor tile. One tap should break it into four pieces.

  3. Step 3

Scrub the floor to remove any remnants of grout and adhesive. Let the area dry before installing the new tile.

  4. Step 4

Apply adhesive to the underside of the new tile. Set the tile down on the prepared floor and press it into place. Wait for the adhesive to dry.

  5. Step 5

Grout in between the new floor tiles. Use a sponge to remove any excess grout. Allow it to dry and then apply grout sealer.
