When you are installing wood flooring, a threshold in the doorway can give the room a finished look. You can install one easily, even when the flooring on the other side of the door is composed from a different material.
Measure the width of the doorway with your measuring tape.

Mark the measurement on your threshold. If you need to bridge from one floor surface to another, such as from hardwood to vinyl or carpeting, buy a threshold with a recessed section on the bottom.

Clamp the threshold to your workbench, and cut it to length with a circular saw.

Center your threshold in the doorway. Keep the holes on top of the hardwood floor. If you are installing the threshold over carpet on one side, tuck the carpet beneath the threshold so it won't shift.

Test your installation by opening and closing the door. Make any adjustments as needed, like shaving the back of the threshold, before continuing.

Drill pilot holes that are slightly smaller than the mounting screws into the threshold. Insert the mounting screws and tighten them with a ratcheting screwdriver.
