This cute turkey will make a fabulous centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table. This craft is simple and can be created in under an hour. After Thanksgiving transplant your flowers to a new pot and store your turkey planter for next year.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Brown self-drying clay
  • Serrated knife
  • 7" terra cotta pot
  • Marker
  • Red pipe cleaner
  • Six pieces of unpopped corn
  • Corn husks
  • Hot glue
  • Mums
  • Whole shelled walnut
  • Small rocks
  1. Step 1

Knead the clay until it is smooth and pliable. Form two balls that are three inches in diameter. Form a third ball that is 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

  2. Step 2

Place the two large balls on opposite sides of the small ball and gently push them together to form the turkey's head, neck and chest. Dip your finger in water and rub the seams to blend the pieces of clay together.

  3. Step 3

Use a serrated knife to make a slice halfway into the bottom ball. Separate the pieces on either side of the cut and slide the ball onto the edge of the pot. Form the edges of the clay to the pot.

  4. Step 4

Stick two small, white rocks into the turkeys' head for eyes. Draw pupils on the eyes with a black permanent marker. Stick a walnut in the turkey face for the beak. Push the rounded end of the walnut in the clay.

  5. Step 5

Create a wattle with a pipe cleaner. Bend the pipe cleaner in half and twist the ends together. Push the twisted ends into the face, just above the beak. Bend the wattle downward to go with the curve of the face.

  6. Step 6

Form feet from two chunks of clay. Form each foot so that it has three toes. Push a piece of unpopped corn in the tip of each toe. Push the feet onto the bottom of the pot.

  7. Step 7

Glue a corn husk onto either side of the planter for the turkey wings. Transplant the mums into the Thanksgiving turkey planter to form the turkey feathers.
