Crochet a hair accessory for yourself or a special girl in your life. Either the scrunchie or the headband makes a great project for using up an odd bit of yarn. You can experiment with yarns of interesting textures to create unique hair accessories.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Worsted weight yarn
  • Size H crochet hook

    Scrunchie

  1. Step 1

Attach the yarn to the band as you make your first single crochet stitch. Single crochet 26 around the band and join with a slip stitch to complete the first round.

  2. Step 2

Chain 5, skip one single crochet, then single crochet in the next stitch. Chain 5, skip one single crochet and single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around until you get to the first stitch. Join with a slip stitch to complete the second round.

  3. Step 3

Single crochet in the next chain 5 space and then chain 3. Continue working in the same chain-5 space and do 1 double crochet, chain 2, and then do 2 double crochet. Continue the sequence of 2 double crochet, chain 2 and 2 more double crochet, in each chain-5 space around. Join with a slip stitch in the top of the beginning chain-3 stitch.

  4. Step 4

Cut the yarn and weave in the end.

  5. Headband

  6. Step 1

Chain 12 and do a half double crochet in the third chain from the hook. Chain 1, and in the same stitch do another half double crochet. Continue to the end of the row by repeating the following pattern: skip 2 stitches and in the next stitch, do a half double crochet, chain 1 and another half double crochet. At the end of the row, chain 2 and turn.

  7. Step 2

Do a half double crochet in the chain-1 space from the row you just completed. Chain 1 and in the same stitch do another half double crochet. Skip to the next chain-1 space and do a half double crochet, chain 1 and another half double crochet. Continue this pattern to the end of the row. Chain 2 and turn.

  8. Step 3

Repeat Step 2 above until the headband reaches the desired length. This headband stretches when you wear it, so make it a bit on the tight side to start with. Fasten it off when you reach the right length. Sew the ends together to complete your headband.
