Homecoming parades are festive events to celebrate homecoming. There's music, costumes, balloons, the homecoming king and queen and of course, parade floats. Pick a parade float theme that shows pride in the school and that will be fun for everyone in the parade.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get inspired by current events. If there's a current television show or movie character that's really popular, it could be a great inspiration for a parade float theme. Use something that can be easily referenced and that everyone attending the parade will recognize. Stay away from obscure references that won't be recognizable to everyone.

  2. Step 2

Keep it family-friendly. The homecoming parade will probably be attended by students, faculty and family members, so pick a theme that's appropriate for all age levels. If there's anything associated with the theme that can be considered offensive, skip it and come up with another idea. It's better to change themes rather than risk offending someone or getting in trouble.

  3. Step 3

Consider the number of riders on your float. You need to have room for all the float props and decorations, along with everyone that will be riding on the float. If you have an ornate theme that requires lots of decorations, there might not be enough room for riders to safely move around on the float.

  4. Step 4

Show some school spirit. No matter what the overall theme of the float, incorporate your school name, colors or mascot in the float somehow. Trim the float in the school colors or paint the faces of float riders with the school logo to work some school pride into your float theme.

  5. Step 5

Have a contest. Organize a drawing or contest to see who can come up with the most creative parade float theme. Once you've narrowed it down, let other parade participants or students vote to pick the theme. This lets everyone get involved in the float process.
