How to Iron Hemp Clothing

Hemp is amazing, eco-friendly fabric that wears like steel and will look great for years. Clothing made from hemp actually improves with use, becoming softer and more comfortable with age. Each washing will also bring out the textures and colors of the fabric, while it remains durable. Hemp does tend to wrinkle easily, but ironing hemp fabric is possible. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the hemp clothing first so the fabric will be damp. If the clothing doesn't need to be laundered, spray it lightly with water.

    • 2

Place the hemp clothing on an ironing board and stretch it to it's original shape and size before ironing it.

    • 3

Set the iron on high heat.

    • 4

Turn the hemp clothing with the wrong side out, and iron it quickly and smoothly. Turn it right side out and touch it up quickly with the iron if you want to bring out the sheen in the fabric.

    • 5

Hang up the hemp clothing immediately, or fold it carefully.

Tips & Warnings

  • Read the label on the hemp clothing before you wash and iron it. Most hemp clothing can easily be laundered, but occasionally a piece will require dry cleaning, or will have other special instructions.

  • It usually isn't necessary to use starch when ironing hemp, because hemp fabric is crisp naturally.

  • Don't be afraid to use a hot iron when ironing your hemp clothing. Hemp is tough fabric and can withstand heat, and a hot iron will remove the wrinkles much more effectively.
