Step 1
Train intensely. People who compete in sport aerobics come from different athletic backgrounds. Competitors include athletes who practice martial arts, dance, cheerleading and gymnastics. Other sport athletes can participate as well as long as they can learn the basics of aerobic routines.
-
Step 2
Develop choreographed routines. Sport aerobics involves choreographing a 1 minute and 45 second routine as a way to showcase your athletic ability. During a routine, you need to demonstrate qualities like endurance, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, agility and speed. You may incorporate moves like jumping jacks, high leg kicks, side kicks, push ups and more.
-
Step 3
Choose the category you want to compete in. Sport aerobics hold individual, mixed pair, trios, groups, youth and senior events. Before you enter a competition, see the restrictions for each category.
-
Step 4
Research any local and regional sports aerobics competitions. Check at local gyms and workout centers to see if they know of any upcoming events.
-
Step 5
Enter a national competition. You'll find several different sport aerobics national competitions held annually. The top events include the ANAC International Aerobic Championship, the United States National Aerobic Championship and the ANAC International Youth Aerobic Championship. Find out entry information on the ANAC website (see Resources below).
