Use a DVD Shredder

If you have compact disks or DVDs that contain information you don't want prying eyes to access, you should invest in a DVD shredder. These devices work just like raditional office paper shredders.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a DVD shredder. You can find an Aleratec DVD Shredder available from the website Newegg.com (see Resources below). Use the DVD shredder for paper documents as well.

    • 2

Plug the DVD shredder in and switch the power on. Adjust the settings if necessary, but most shredders have an auto feature that determines operation.

    • 3

Place the DVD or CD at the top of the blades. Gently push the CD or DVD and allow the shredder to grab it. The DVD shredder will use cross cutting to cut the disks into pieces. After shredding, the disk is unusable. Most DVD shredders cut the disks into 7mm strips. After the disk goes through the shredder, it will automatically stop running.

    • 4

Cut your credit cards with a DVD shredder. The shredder will cut the credit card into strips, protecting your information after you dispose of it.

Tips & Warnings

  • DVD shredders also have a reverse option in case a DVD, CD, credit card or document jams the device.
