A steam facial is an excellent way to give oily skin a deep cleansing treatment. The combination of herbs and steam will penetrate and soften your skin, heal blemishes and clear clogged pores, making oily skin look fresh and healthy.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Saucepan with lid
  • 4 cups distilled water
  • 1 tsp. dried sage
  • 1 tsp. dried yarrow
  • 1 tsp. rosemary
  • 1 tsp. fennel
  • Potholder
  • Large towel
  1. Step 1

Place 4 cups of distilled water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil.

  2. Step 2

Remove the saucepan from the heat and add 1 tsp. dried sage, 1 tsp. dried yarrow, 1 tsp. rosemary and 1 tsp. fennel.

  3. Step 3

Put the lid on the saucepan and allow the herbs to steep for 5 to 10 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Protect your table with a potholder and set the saucepan on the potholder.

  5. Step 5

Lean over the saucepan with about 10 to 12 inches between the pan and your face.

  6. Step 6

Drape a large towel over your head to form a tent.

  7. Step 7

Close your eyes and relax, breathing deeply, for about 10 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If desired, add 3 drops of lavender essential oil, 3 drops of lemon oil or 3 drops of geranium oil to the steam facial.
  • If your skin is extremely inflamed or if your pores are clogged, avoid steam facials because they can irritate your skin. Instead, soak a towel in the warm herbal water and squeeze out the excess water. Pat the warm towel gently on your face until the towel is cool.
