The yoga lion pose is a rare pose in the yoga classroom, as it focuses mainly on the muscles of the face. With continued practice, this pose helps to firm the facial muscles, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and helps you to maintain a youthful appearance. However, for many the kneeling position is hard on the knees, in which case a yoga block comes in handy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Rest in a kneeling position with a yoga block placed flat on the floor under your sits bones. If one block is not enough to relieve the pressure on your knees, you can stack a second block on top of the first. Rest the tops of your feet flat on the floor and draw them as near to the block or blocks as you can comfortably.

  2. Step 2

Extend your arms in front of you and rest your palms on your thighs. Breathe slowly and deeply and relax into this position. When ready, inhale deeply and then exhale as you lean forward and move your hands to your knees.

  3. Step 3

Continue exhaling as you spread your fingers wide and open your mouth and eyes as much as possible. Push your chin forward, stick out your tongue and roar like a lion. Continue these motions as well as the roar for your full exhale.

  4. Step 4

Inhale and relax back onto the yoga block or blocks. Close your eyes, relax your hands and facial muscles and sit for one full breath. Repeat the lion pose 3 to 5 times.
