Replacing a toilet in a mobile home is similar to replacing a toilet anywhere else. You should look for toilets made for mobile homes as opposed to those made for traditionally built houses. Many mobile home fixtures last only a brief time, so you must know how to replace your toilet.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • New mobile home toilet
  • Towel
  • Wax seal
  • Nuts and bolts
  • Drinking straws
  • Gasket for tank
  1. Step 1

Purchase a new toilet from a mobile home supply store. View their selection and get the best-built mobile home toilet you can. There are some cheaply built toilets made specifically for mobile homes, but they do not last very long.

  2. Step 2

Determine if there is a water shut-off valve in your mobile home and, if so, where it is located. Turn off the water to the bathroom and remove all water from the existing bowl by flushing the toilet. Use a towel to soak up the remainder.

  3. Step 3

Remove the screws that hold the tank and the body together. Lift up the tank and move it out of the way. Pick up the bowl and put it aside as well.

  4. Step 4

Replace the new wax seal, nuts and bolts in place according to the manufacturer's instructions. Place some cut pieces of drinking straws on the bolts to help in guiding the bowl later.

  5. Step 5

Lower the new toilet bowl down onto the wax seal. Have someone with you in order to ensure correct placement as the bowl lowers onto the flange bolts. Check to see if the new toilet bowl is level.

  6. Step 6

Apply your weight to the toilet in order to make a good seal between the bowl and the wax. Tighten the nuts so that the toilet does not rock.

  7. Step 7

Add a new gasket on the bottom of the tank and then attach the tank and bowl together according to manufacturer's directions. Tighten the bolt holding the two together until both pieces just touch. Replace the float and flapper. Turn on the water to your mobile home and check for leaks.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful when working with all types of toilet bowls and tanks. If you are using porcelain, the parts will break more easily.
