When you want to pamper yourself, and your hair, with a deep conditioning hot oil treatment, you may find that most brand name products contain harsh chemicals and perfumes. You can make your own lavender and rosemary hot oil from natural ingredients. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Glass container
  • 4 tbsp. sweet almond oil
  • 1 tbsp. avocado oil
  • 1 tsp. wheat germ oil
  • 1/2 tsp. lecithin
  • Small sauce pan
  • Plastic shower cap
  • Shampoo and conditioner

Instructions

      Mix your lavender hot oil treatment in a heatproof glass container, such as a Pyrex pitcher. Measure in 4 tbsp. of sweet almond oil, 1 tbsp. of avocado oil, 1 tsp. of wheat germ oil and 1/2 tsp. of lecithin. Mix the ingredients briskly. Add 10 drops of lavender essential oil and 10 drops of rosemary essential oil. Stir the oils gently into the mix.

      Place the glass container inside a small sauce pan and add a small amount of water. Heat the water until the the ingredients inside your glass container are warm; Use a moderate flame and watch the time. Heating the blend for for too long or at high temperatures can destroy the healing qualities of your treatment.

      Massage the warm oils onto your dry scalp, and then work it gently to the tips of dry hair. Place your hair under a plastic shower cap and leave the treatment on for at least 30 minutes. You can leave it overnight for extremely damaged hair.

      Rinse the hot oil treatment with lukewarm water, and then shampoo and condition your hair as usual. Repeat this treatment whenever your hair needs it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your rosemary and lavender hot oil treatment should keep for up to 12 months if stored in the refrigerator. If you're making an extra large batch, make sure that you store the ingredients in a sterilized dark glass bottle with a tight fitting lid.
