No one enjoys swimming in a dirty pool, and spending time in water that isn't clean can threaten your health and the life of your pool. If your water is cloudy or dirty, it doesn't take much to increase swimming pool clarity.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Maintain proper chemical balances. Keep ideal levels of pH, chlorine and alkalinity to increase your swimming pool's clarity. Test the water regularly to monitor these levels.

  2. Step 2

Run the filter daily. Keeping the water circulated will help remove debris from the water that can lead to cloudiness. Make sure the filter runs several hours each day to keep the water clear.

  3. Step 3

Use a chemical clarifier to increase swimming pool clarity. Clarifiers can be found at any pool supply store. Follow the manufacturer directions for the size of your swimming pool.

  4. Step 4

Add a chlorine shock to clarify pool water in a relatively short period of time. Shocking the pool water with an "overdose" of chlorine will increase the clarity of the water by killing any algae or other organic matter.

  5. Step 5

Check the pool filter regularly to make sure it is not clogged. Follow manufacturer suggestions for regular maintenance on the filter to ensure it is working properly to maintain swimming pool clarity.

  6. Step 6

Keep the pool clean and free of dirt and debris. Vacuum the pool at least two to three times weekly and backwash the pool filtration system at least once per week.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a liquid chlorine rather than tablets. Adding liquid chlorine and a clarifier will increase swimming pool clarity.
  • Do not swim in a pool after adding a chlorine shock for 24 to 48 hours.
