How to Make Birch Branch Reindeer
If you have a saw and a drill, and you enjoy working with your hands, you can make a whimsical birch branch reindeer to dress up your house for the holiday season. Make some small birch branch reindeer for Christmas ornaments or mantle decorations, or make slightly larger reindeer to sit on the table, if you like. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Hand saw
- Birch branch of desired size
- 1 dowel
- Drill
- Hot glue gun
- Antler-shaped birch twigs
- Googly eyes or black and white paint
- Red bead
- Cotton ball

Cut two pieces from the birch branch, a larger one for the reindeer's body and a smaller one for the reindeer's head.

Divide one dowel into four equal pieces that will be the reindeer's legs. Drill four angled holes, and insert the dowel pieces into the holes, securing them with a bit of hot glue.

Use another, shorter piece of dowel to create a neck that will connect the head to the body.

Drill some small holes on the top of the head and insert two birch twig antlers.

Glue two googly eyes on the head, or paint two eyes with black and white paint.

Give the reindeer a red bead nose and a cotton ball tail, securing each with hot glue.

Tips & Warnings
Your birch branch reindeer can be as large or as small as you like. Just choose the birch branches and twigs accordingly, and buy appropriately sized dowels to match.
Birch is a very good wood for craft projects, but you can make reindeer out of any wood you like, such as maple, ash or pine.
