Choose your DK weight yarn and 4mm double pointed needles. You will need around 230 to 300 yards or yarn for this project.

    • 2

Knit a gauge swatch. You will need 18 stitches per 4 inches to have the correct gauge for this project. Change the needles size if you need to in order to get gauge.

    • 3

Cast on 99 stitches. This size will fit most heads. If you want to make a child's version, cast on 77 inches. You can add or decrease stitches to make a larger or smaller size if necessary just keep the number in multiples of 11.

    • 4

Distribute the stitches around four double pointed needles.

    • 5

Join in the round. Make sure not to twist the stitches.

    • 6

      Knit 1 inch of k1, p1 ribbing.

    • 7

Knit in stockinette stitch for 5 inches. The hat should measure 6 inches from the edge.

    • 9

Decrease again by knitting 8 and knitting two stitches together. Repeat this for an entire row. Knit 2 rows in stockinette stitch.

    • 10

Decrease another row by knitting 7 stitches and then knitting two stitches together. Repeat this for an entire row. Knit 1 row in stockinette.

    • 11
