How to Record TV to Hard Drive With Nero 8

Nero 8, the Windows based media manager, may well be the Swiss army knife of digital media tools. Among its many features is the ability to record TV broadcasts and save them to your hard drive. The procedure is simple and takes little more than the time to watch your favorite show.

  • Installed recording card with compliant with computer manufacturer
  • Digital and Analog TV tuner device
  • Hard Drive capable of handling transfers of 3.6 MB per second

      Connect your TV tuner device to your capture card. Quit all running applications (Nero 8 will work will some applications in background, but it never hurts to release all processor attention to the capture). Launch Nero 8 and choose "Capture Video to Hard Drive" from the Start screen options. Set the device tuner to the program you want to record.

      Drop the Capture Device menu down and select your device from the list. Record in "Native Capturing" mode. Click on the "Record" button to start the capture.

      Click the "Stop" button to end recording. You can stop recording during commercials and click the "Record" button again when the program begins or record the entire broadcast and edit the commercials later.

      Play the video back if you want to review it. When you're satisfied with the playback, click on the "Next" button. Nero 8 will present you with a list of options including further editing, saving the file as is, burning your recording directly to DVD or creating a YouTube or iPod video.
