Gum art is a unique and sometimes gross type of art. Regular chewing gum is used to create each piece of art, with the gum being used as the medium. Create landscapes, portraits, and even abstract designs using the gum. Gum art has become quite popular thanks to a select few artists that have used gum to create some of today's best and most unique pieces.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine what type of design you would like to create. On a piece of heavy paper, draw out the design in pencil. Larger spaces are easier to do, especially as a new artist. Remember that you can add gum on top of gum, to create a 3D image and for more color or texture. Be as creative or simplistic as you would like.

  2. Step 2

Consider purchasing a gum art by numbers kit if you don't want to draw your own design. Not only will they provide you with a great picture to add gum to, but they will also come with all the gum (in a variety of colors) that you need. Gum kits are available through many craft stores and online from any place you purchase craft products.

  3. Step 3

Purchase the colors of gum you need to complete your gum art. You can find specialty gum and gum colors from craft supply outlets. Look for a variety of gum colors. Only purchase gum that is safe to chew, nothing used for adhesive methods.

  4. Step 4

Chew the gum until it is pliable and easy to handle, approximately for one hour. Once easy to use, and not as sticky, begin stretching and molding it around the image on the paper you've drawn the image on. Use a variety of colors to create a bright, beautiful picture that stands out.

  5. Step 5

Keep going, until the entire picture is covered in gum. There is no need to add anything on top of the gum as it will naturally dry over time. Frame your creation and hang it up as you've created gum art that everyone will talk about.
