How to Build Bamboo Scaffolding

Save

Having a scaffold is good when you are completing a job that requires more than one person working in a construction area at a time, as well as if there are various levels in the same area that need to be worked on. This may not always be in the budget so there may be a need to be creative. This creativity can be expressed by building a bamboo scaffolding instead of creating one by using metal.

  • Start with mud seals base (footing) to prevent it from sinking. Depending on where the scaffolding is being placed, you may want to ensure that it is placed on a level location to minimize risk of injury, as well as minimize interruption of work flow.

  • Select the four longest pieces of bamboo and select the width and height that is specific to your project. At the bottom, tie one end of the longest bamboo pole with bamboo ribbon. Adjust the second side and secure it in place. Move to the other side and secure the second side with bamboo ribbon. With help, hold all four long poles in place and secure them with shorter bamboo at the bottom.

  • Repeat these steps for the second level. Once the second level is completed, fasten a row of bamboo together to make a deck on the second level to stand and work on.

  • Start the third level once the second level has been completed. For added support, cross braces may be added. Tie one at the bottom base and one at the top onto the second level at an angle, connecting the bottom and the second level together. Make an X brace on both sides. Repeat this step between the second and third level to ensure that there is support. If the scaffolding is more than three levels, you will need to secure it to a structure to prevent the scaffolding from toppling over.

  • Place bamboo on all four sides at least three feet on the second and third levels to be used as safety rails.
