Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a driver's permit handbook and study guide from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, a classroom instructor, or download the state's drivers' manual (See Resources).

  2. Step 2

Study for at least three weeks prior to the test. Spend 10 or 15 minutes twice a day, five days a week. Note that some of the information is common sense, while other topics are more challenging.

  3. Step 3

Review the study guide carefully and make notes. Highlight the areas that are confusing. Talk to an experienced driver about the correct answers and as him to explain.

  4. Step 4

Create an index card for each area of the study guide that is a unclear. Make special note of information regarding allowable times and distances for driving and stopping. Write out the questions with the correct answers and review them daily.

  5. Step 5

Ask someone to serve as a study partner to review the material. Ask the study partner to questions you on the material. Create scenarios to reinforce the information.

  6. Step 6

Check online for state-specific information about the driver's permit exam, study materials and sample tests. Incorporate the material into the study plan.

  7. Step 7

Set aside a morning or afternoon to take the test without other pressing obligations. Arrange for reliable transportation. Review the material one time a few hours before leaving for the test site. Relax.

Tips & Warnings
