How to do an International Vacation House Exchange
One of the best parts of traveling is getting accustomed to life in a new area. Unfortunately, short stays and sterile hotel rooms can keep you from feeling at home. That's why you may want to consider doing an international vacation house exchange. While you may be bored by your surroundings, someone from another country will be excited to trade homes with you for a period of time.

1
Narrow your options and decide where you would like to spend time in an exchanged home. There is a worldwide market for home exchange, so don't limit yourself. Best of all, you might be able to afford staying in a place that was otherwise unaffordable, since you're not paying for a hotel or hostel.
-
2
Join one of the many sites that facilitate international house exchanges. Pay a small membership fee to see pictures of homes available across the world and get a little bit of an understanding about what your vacation will be like if you wake up there every morning.

3
Speak with a few different families and see if they are interested in trading with you. You can do this via email or over the phone. Don't be afraid to ask questions. It's your right to get as much information as you want. Be sure to find out if the home you're considering has the features you want, such as a pool or an adequate number of bathrooms.
-
4
Iron out a detailed agreement with the person with whom you're exchanging houses. Make sure both parties know exactly how long the exchange will last and whether you are allowed to use each other's cars.
-
5
Prepare everything before you leave. You should put pets in a kennel or leave them with a friend or family member. Lock extremely valuable items in a safe or in a safe deposit box.
-
6
Enjoy yourself as much as possible in your temporary accommodations before you return and gain a new appreciation of home.
