Step 1
Check the area where you would like to install the compactor to make sure there's enough space. You'll typically need 6 inches of clearance on the right side of the compactor drawer to allow for the removal of the basket or bag. You'll also need about 25 inches of clearance to fully open the compactor drawer. Also include any measurements for a trim kit to complete your countertop look, if necessary.

Step 2
Hire an electrician to install a separate circuit breaker that is exclusively for the trash compactor. While this step isn't always necessary, a separate circuit is highly recommended to prevent overloading of circuits and potential fires. A time-delay fuse is also acceptable. You'll need 115 volt, 60Hz fused electrical supply.

Step 3
Remove the compactor from the box. Remove all the packaging and any waxy residue from packaging. Waxy residue can be removed with diluted household liquid cleanser.
-
Step 4
Adjust the toeplate if necessary by measuring the area where it interferes with the floor and carefully cutting along the drawn line with a utility knife or a pair of scissors.
-
Step 5
Turn the knob to the OFF position. Place a level on the top of the compactor from side to side and front to back. Adjust the compactor if it isn't level. Plug compactor in and move it to the final position.
