Tapestry curtains are a lovely way to provide your room with not only some decoration, but also a conversation piece. Tapestry curtains use tapestry wall hanging patterns, which traditionally have a story to be told.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Visit your favorite fabric store and inspect their collection of tapestry fabrics. Tapestry fabrics come in a nearly unlimited selection of designs and colors. Find one that incorporates your home's style and fits your budget. Purchase enough fabric to create as many curtains as necessary.

  2. Step 2

Cut each curtain to fit your windows plus 4 to 6 inches extra for the foldover at the bottom. While not a necessity, it is a good idea to cut your curtains about a foot longer than the actual size of the window. This will allow you to make a hem at the bottom and create a slot for the curtain rod to run through. In addition, add up to a foot or two on the width if you wish to have a wavy look.

  3. Step 3

Fold 2 to 4 inches of tapestry over and onto the backside of the material at the top. Pin this down so it does not move out of place once it is straight. Sew the two sides together across the top of the fabric in order to create an opening for the rod to fit through.

  4. Step 4

Create a hem at the bottom of the curtain to prevent fraying and increase the overall look of the tapestry. Fold the bottom 4 to 6 inches of the curtain over and pin it down. Sew the hem all the way across to create a smooth bottom to the hanging.

  5. Step 5

Make a back curtain to prevent fading from the sun. Do this the same way, using a lighter material and place it behind the tapestry.
