Step 1
Buy a lapboard for a nominal fee. A lapboard is wide enough to hold not only your computer, but also a mouse, if you don't like using the built in mouse. It's also large enough that you can sit in a recliner and it will balance on the arms. If you sit the lapboard on your lap, you should put a pillow between you and it.
-
Step 2
Get a beanbag laptop desk. These are boards with a beanbag attached so you don't need to use a pillow or anything else to keep it up off your lap.
-
Step 3
Look for a TV tray that will hold your laptop computer. A TV tray will get the computer off your lap and allows you to use it efficiently anywhere. If you buy one with large enough dimensions, you will then be able to use your mouse. Although called a TV tray, these laptop desks have legs and allow you to angle your computer up to 30 inches.

Step 4
Find a laptop computer desk that will fold up and fit in your computer case. You carry it with you in the case you already have for your computer. When it's unfolded, it expands for you to sit at it or keep it small, so you can sit it on your lap.

Step 5
Select a bed tray like the one they use in the hospitals. This is high enough for you to use in bed or on a chair and will hold your laptop. If you combine this with a lapboard, you can then use your mouse, too.
