When booking flights from the United States to Ireland you have two choices--connecting flights or direct. A direct flight to Ireland is generally shorter than connecting flights, but also more expensive. Most flights will take you to Dublin, the capital of Ireland, because it has the largest international airport.

Direct From East Coast

Traveling direct from New York or Boston to Dublin will generally take seven hours.

Direct From the Midwest

If you are traveling to Dublin from Chicago’s O’Hare, expect a flight around eight hours.

Direct From West Coast

From Los Angeles International Airport a direct flight to Dublin will be about 11 hours.

Connecting From London

A common way people travel is by landing at London’s Heathrow and taking a connecting flight from one of three London airports. The flight to London will take between six and 10 hours, depending on your departing city. The flight from London to Dublin takes an hour and 10 minutes.

Connecting From Scotland

Another connecting flight can be taken from Edinburgh or Glasgow, Scotland. The flight to Scotland will take between nine and 12 hours, with a connecting flight to Dublin that takes only about 55 minutes or 40 minutes respectively, depending on which Scottish airport you use.

Connecting From Paris

You can choose to take a flight to Paris that will take between nine and 12 hours with a connecting flight that lasts an hour and a half. Keep in mind that with connecting flights you may have to travel to different airports or have long layovers.
