How to Work With the Contact Action Bar in Yahoo! Messenger

Yahoo! Messenger provides a number of different ways to interact with your contacts. The contact action bar is one way that give you an easy-to-access shortcut to your contact list and address book. The contact action bar provides quick access to most of Yahoo! Messenger's instant messaging, chat and call features.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Find the Yahoo! Messenger contact action bar. The action bar is the text box at the top of the Yahoo! Messenger window.

  2. Step 2

    Access a Yahoo! Messenger contact's contact card's information. Begin to type in the contact's Yahoo! ID or his real name. As you type, Yahoo! Messenger displays the possible choices, updating the possibilities as you complete the name or ID.

  3. Step 3

    Locate the Yahoo! Messenger contact you were looking for and use the contact action bar to initiate communication with her. With the choices to the right of the contact's name, you can instant message, call, text message or email the contact. Just click on the action you want to take.

  4. Step 4

    Search for a contact using other information. You can search for contacts by entering information other than his name or Yahoo! ID. Start to enter an email address or phone number to search for contacts.

  5. Step 5

    Use the Yahoo! Messenger contact action bar to search the web. Enter the search terms you want to search for and then click "Search the web" at the bottom of the drop down menu. Your default browser opens with a Yahoo! search for the terms you entered.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can access all of your Yahoo! Messenger contacts in the drop down menu by clicking the arrow at the right of the contact action bar. All of your contacts will then be displayed.
