LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. To become a LEED Accredited Professional you must recognized in the construction and design industry once you have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System.

  • Decide to become a LEED Accredited Professional.

  • Possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in the design process, to support and encourage integrated design, and to streamline the application and certification process.

  • Apply for and register to take the LEED Professional Accreditation exam. The cost to take the exam is $300.00 to $400.00 depending on whether you are a member or not.

  • Prepare to take the LEED Professional Accreditation exam. This will require that you prepare for the exam by studying. Some of the study material can be obtained by contacting the United States Green Building Certification Institute.

  • Consider taking a United States Green Building Certification Institute course to aid you in your preparation in becoming a LEED Accredited Professional. United States Green Building Certification Institute offers both online and in person courses, so you may want to determine which method would be a better fit for you and your learning style. Depending on where you are, there may or may not be a physical location near you. Research this and determine whether you can attend class in person or whether it is more feasible to attend course via the internet.

  • Earn the LEED AP credential by passing the LEED Professional Accreditation exam.
