How to Troubleshoot Check Engine Light Warning

The check engine light on your vehicle is something that may be cause for alarm, but should not force you into making rash decisions in regards to your auto. Make sure you don't overreact when your light does come on and do something that may cause even more problems. Instead, consider what could possibly be wrong.

      Consult your owner's manual for the vehicle. Here you will be able to find what the cause of the check engine light coming on may be. Determine if it is something that you are able to repair or correct such as a loose fuel cap on your auto, which is the most common problem. The owner's manual will list other possible problems as well.

      Use the code on your check engine light to tell you what it is that is wrong with your car. A code will flash that is a two digit number to tell you what it is that is wrong with your car.
