Instructions

    • 1

Go around the house and gather your materials. Most people have garbage bags, string, scissors and ribbon lying around the house. If you need to find sticks, simply go into the woods and look for two sticks that are fairly straight and at least 2 feet long.

    • 2

Secure the frame of the kite. In order to secure the frame, you'll want to tie the two sticks so that they form a cross. Continue wrapping string around the sticks until the frame is taut. Tie off the frame with a square knot.

    • 3

Lay the garbage bag on the floor so that it is completely flat. Place your frame over the garbage bag. If your garbage bag is bigger than the frame, trim the bag so that it is just slightly bigger than the frame.

    • 4

Wrap the plastic bag around the ends of the frame. At this point, the ends of the frame will be covered by plastic.

    • 5

Tie the plastic bag and ends of the frame with string. Wrap the string around the frame again and again until it is completely taut. Tie off the string with a square knot. Repeat this action on all four ends of the frame.

    • 6

Attach a piece string to either side of the cross in the frame. Secure both sides with a square knot. Note, that you should leave a little slack in this piece of string, as your guide string will be tied to it momentarily.

    • 7

Affix your guide string to the string you just tied to the frame. This is the string you are literally going to fly the kite with in the air. Make sure you have a ball of at least 50 feet of string.

    • 8

Place ribbons on each side of your frame. The ribbons should be a couple of feet long and hang down freely. Believe it or not, these ribbons will help the kite balance in the air.

    • 9

Go fly your kite. You have now completed your kite made out of a plastic garbage bag. It's very "green" and therefore the "in thing" to do.
