Airbrushing is the act of using a paint sprayer to apply paint to a vehicle or other target. You spray lightly and layer your colors until you get the effect you are looking for. If you are going for a woodgrain effect, you must choose the right paint and the right colors.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose paint that specifically says it is for airbrushing. The paint will most likely be water based. The pigment particles are very fine in this paint so it doesn't clog the sprayer.

  2. Step 2

Ensure that the paint also works well on automotive products. You don't need to get a beautiful woodgrain going only to have it peel off quickly.

  3. Step 3

Pick up a base coat that matches the rest of your vehicle, as well as the colors that make the woodgrain. Choose browns, yellows and golds. A good auto paint, like Createx, will have what you need.

  4. Step 4

Stick first to the browns and add yellows or golds as you get further into your airbrush project.

Tips & Warnings
  • Visit an art or paint store yourself, if possible, as it is difficult to find the exact shades you want online.
  • Woodgrain effects in airbrush are very time-consuming and sometimes expensive. However, it is worth every bit of time and energy when you're finished.
