How to Find MSN Messenger's Shared Background Images

MSN Messenger is a popular way to speak with friends and colleagues around the globe. One of Messenger's most popular option is customizing your background with an image that represents who you are or what your company does. Changing your background image is a fun and easy way to update your Messenger.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Find your computer's My Computer icon in your windows browser. Click on this image and let it open. There will be a window that opens that will let you type an internal address within the computer. Right click this so you can begin typing.

  2. Step 2

    Type the following path into the window: C:\Documents and Settings\sword\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger. This will direct you to the proper place within your computer where shared background images are stored.

  3. Step 3

    Inspect this folder path. Select all the .dat files in the folder and copy them to another file. You can easily create another file by going to your desktop and left clicking on the open space. Select create new folder from the list of options and name it something that will go along with this project so you know its purpose in the future.

  4. Step 4

    Rename each of the files and replace their .dat status with .jpg status. There will be a dropdown menu at the bottom of the screen when you choose the "Save As" option. Scroll through the options until you find this.

  5. Step 5

    Click on the .jpg files to view the shared background images you have for your MSN Messenger.
