How to Adjust the Headlights in a Honda Prelude
If drivers seem to honk or flash their bright lights at you for no apparent reason, you may need to adjust your headlights. While car manufacturers recommend using a service station to adjust the headlights on newer cars, older sports coupes like the Honda Prelude provide a simple way for any do-it-yourself fan to adjust the headlights.

1
Park the your Honda Prelude on a level surface 15 to 25 feet away from a wall or garage door. Prepare your sports coupe to adjust your headlights by adding or removing weight to the car if your fuel tank is lower than half tank or you normally carry cargo. Other factors to consider include the tire pressure and the amount of weight typically in the driver's seat.
-
2
Remove the bezel and locate the headlight adjustment screws. Make sure you don't confuse the adjustment screws with the mounting screws-you don't want to detach your headlight assembly.
-
-
3
Settle the suspension in your Honda Prelude by gently pressing down on the front bumper. Wait a few seconds for the suspension to settle.
-
4
Use a tape measure to find the distance from the center of each headlight to floor and transfer the measurement to the wall. Although you don't need to, you may want to mark the horizontal center point so you know where to place the mark for each headlight.
-
5
Turn your headlights on and use a Phillips screwdriver to adjust the screws. Adjust each headlight individually, covering the opposite headlight if need be.
-
6
Monitor the trajectory path on the wall and turn the screws the proper direction to move the path until it hits the center of the mark. While the high beams should be exactly in the center of your mark, the low beams can have a 2-inch variance from the center.
