The Chevy Corvette is often referred to as America's only true sports car. This title presents the owner with a responsibility of ensuring that the Corvette is properly maintained. This maintenance should include changing the valve cover gasket, when the time arises.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Disconnect the battery cables from the battery terminal, then remove the fuel rail covers.

  2. Step 2

Twist and remove the spark plug wire boot.

  3. Step 3

Disconnect the ignition coils and harness connector, and remove the PCV Valve.

  4. Step 4

Remove the ignition coil bolts and mounting, the generator plug and the ETC plug.

  5. Step 5

Remove the valve cover bolts and the valve cover. Then, remove the old valve cover gasket and replace it with a new one.

  6. Step 6

Replace the valve cover. Tighten the valve cover bolts. Reattach the ETC Plug, generator Plug, ignition coil bolts, mounting, PCV valve, spark plug boot, fuel rail covers and the battery cables.

  7. Step 7

Check the oil level by checking the oil stick. Fill the container until the oil reaches the appropriate level on the oil stick. Start the engine and allow it to run for a short time period.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not overtighten the bolts when replacing the valve cover gasket or the gasket will not sit properly.
  • Make sure that you check the oil level and, if applicable, put oil back into the container when you are finished putting the engine pieces back together.
  • Ensure that the engine is cool prior to starting any work on the car.
