1
Select a glass base for your reed diffuser. The best base is about half the height of your reeds, with an opening wide enough to hold the reeds but not too wide that the reeds will not stand upright. That old bud vase in the back of your closet might be a good choice.

2
Fill the glass base 1/4 to 1/2 full with scented oil. You can purchase bottles of scented oil or liquid potpourri at your local home store or craft supply store. If the scent is too strong, you can dilute it with baby oil. If you are daring, try mixing your own oil. You can mix your old perfume with baby oil. Other homemade reed diffuser oil recipes can be found by searching the internet.

Insert about six reeds into the oil. The reeds will act as a wick, absorbing the oil and spreading the fragrance into the air. You can purchase reeds for reed diffusers at many home stores and craft supply stores. You can try using bamboo skewers, dried hydrangea stems, or any other material that will absorb and wick the oil.

Add personal touches that match your decor, if desired. You can add rocks or glass beads to the bottom of the glass base, or add a stem of dried flowers. Use your imagination to make your homemade reed diffuser a functional, yet beautiful piece of your home decor.
